Carpet Care Instructions | Quality Flooring by Frank Milea

At Quality Flooring, we don’t just lay carpet and leave. We partner with our customers and provide them with the proper information and tools they need to care for their investment. Here are some tips you can follow to properly care for your carpet:

Believe it or not, carpet may one of the easiest types of flooring for which to care and vacuuming your new carpet properly is the single most important thing you can do to protect and care for it. Walking on dirty carpet pushes the soiled particles down from the surface of the carpet pile where they are harder to remove and can damage carpet fibers. Frequent vacuuming, using the proper procedure and recommended type of vacuum cleaner for your carpet, alleviates this potential problem.

In addition to frequent vacuuming, professionally cleaning your carpet every 12 to 18 months (for a typical household) with a hot water extraction system (commonly called "steam" cleaning) is vital to protect the color of your beautiful new carpet. Cleaning removes the oily and sticky things that vacuuming can’t take out such as cooking vapors, air pollution and some types of tracked in dirt. The color isn’t lost, but is hidden under the oily film.

In addition, if this type of soil is allowed to remain on your carpet, it will also begin to attract and hold the regular type of dry dirt we track in every day. To protect your carpet and maintain your manufacturer’s warranty, period cleaning may be done by a professional cleaning service (provided they are certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) or a do-it-yourself system (using equipment that is certified under the Carpet and Rug Institutes's Seal of Approval program). Cleaning systems that have achieved the Gold Level Performance in the CRI Seal of Approval program are strongly recommended.
